Client Success Story: Bureau of Land Management

“Since I took the class [The Leadership Challenge Workshop] and took the LPI, I personally have changed. Now I make sure that every day I take some time to stop in the hallways and talk to folks and maybe ask something about their personal interests.”
                            —Don Charpio, Employee Development Chief
                               Bureau of Land Management

Client Profile
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is often described as a small agency with a big mission: To sustain the health, productivity, and diversity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. Over 11,000 employees administer approximately 245 million surface acres – more than any other Federal agency in the United States.

Business Challenges
     •  Expand leadership development within the organization.
     •  Meet the need for leadership succession planning.
     •  Create a spirit of community.

Creatively challenging processes within this established federal agency led to expansion of leadership development programs within the organization. The key to this effort was the successful linking of Kouzes’ and Posner’s Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® to the 28 leadership competencies from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

Benefits
    •  Bridged the leadership training gap between new and advanced leaders.
    •  E-learning solution provided cost-effective means of expanding         leadership training.
