Leadership Challenges: Creating a Shared Vision
Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, authors of The Leadership Challenge®, contributed to the Harvard Business Review and wrote about leading and creating a shared vision. They gave a description of a program manager who asked for feedback on his leadership. It was mostly favorable yet one of his direct reports remarked, “You would benefit by helping us, as a team, to understand how you got to your vision. We want to walk with you while you create the goals and vision so we all get to the end vision together.” Jim and Barry emphasized that visions that are meaningful and have staying power are those that are shared visions. Their research shows that “The best leaders are able to bring their people into the future because they engage in the oldest form of research: They observe the human condition.”
On this important topic, one of our master facilitators and author of The Leadership Challenge Vision Book, Dan Schwab, recently presented a webinar, Creating and Sharing a Leadership Vision.
