Barry Z. Posner
Dr. Posner is the Dean of the Leavey School of Business and Professor of Leadership at Santa Clara University (SCU). He assumed the Dean's position in 1997, after having served as Managing Partner of the Executive Development Center and Associate Dean of Graduate Programs.
Dr. Posner is an internationally renowned scholar in the area of leadership. Co-author of seven books including the award winning and best selling The Leadership Challenge, he also has published over 80 articles in academic and practitioner-oriented journals and publications. He currently serves as Section Editor for the Journal of Management and is a member of the Journal of Business Ethics editorial review board.
Dr. Posner received a Bachelor of Arts (with honors) in Political Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara (1970), a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Ohio State University (1972), and a Doctorate in Organizational Behavior and Administrative Theory from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (1976). He joined the faculty at SCU in 1976, and has received the President's Distinguished Faculty Award, the Dean's Extraordinary Faculty Award, and a number of other teaching and scholarly recognitions.
In 2001, Dr. Posner received the McFeely Award from the International Management Council in recognition of being one of the nation's top management and leadership educators. He has consulted with organizations around the globe and currently sits on the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and San Jose Repertory Theatre boards of directors.
